Vernell Brown III’s first touchdown at Florida was also the Gators’ first score of the 2026 season. That has to be a good omen, right?

You read that right. Despite leading the Gators in receiving yards last season, Brown did not score a single touchdown under Billy Napier. No worries though — it took about 7 minutes of the Jon Sumrall era for Brown to find the end zone.

It was a pretty impressive score, too. Brown showed off his speed and ability to shed defenders in one play, catching a pass from Aaron Philo behind the line of scrimmage before splitting 2 defenders and turning on the jets for a 49-yard score.

It’s still very early in this one, but Brown has proven to be a favorite receiver of Philo’s already. So far, Brown has amassed 3 receptions for 62 yards and the above score.

Florida is up early on the Florida Atlantic Owls. The Gators lead 17-7 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, looking to add to their lead.
