Virginia Tech fans deliver electric ‘Enter Sandman’ intro before James Franklin’s debut

The James Franklin era at Virginia Tech is underway.
The Hokies are hosting VMI on Saturday night to get their 2026 season started. As is tradition, Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium began the night with a raucous rendition of “Enter Sandman.”

The ‘Enter Sandman’ tradition in Blacksburg dates back to 2000 when the intro was used to help debut a new video board in Lane Stadium.
Expectations are high for Virginia Tech in Year 1 under Franklin. The university committed to putting forth more resources moving forward in an effort to get Virginia Tech back toward the top of the ACC.
Those efforts began with hiring Franklin, who had a mostly-successful tenure as Penn State’s head coach before being fired midway through last season. He led the Nittany Lions to 10+ wins in 6 separate seasons and took them to the CFP semifinals in 2024.
Virginia Tech will host Old Dominion in Week 2.
