Seed of the week: Dylan Thompson to Mike Davis

In case you’ve missed it, a seed is another term for a great throw. That said, this week’s seed is moreย clutch than anything else.

I’m giving it toย Dylan Thompson of South Carolina.

I know, I know, Iโ€™m a homer. Whatever. Take a look at this throw and tell me that it isnโ€™t deserving of the award.

The Florida Gators lined up to kickย a chip-shot field goal for a two-score advantage, butย South Carolina blocked it. Florida got the ball back, ran some clock and punted with 47 seconds left, up by a touchdown.

The Gators took a delay of game penalty, which was insane because they had a timeout remaining (why give up five yards?).ย Then South Carolina blocked the punt as well. A Gamecocks player ran right up the gut and didnโ€™t even get touched.

During the ensuing drive, Thompson made a terrific throw.

Thompson evaded pressure from his right by rolling to his left.ย Mike Davis ran a โ€œbopperโ€ route (as we called it at SC).

Thompson, in full sprint, hit Davis in stride. Davis ranย to Florida’s 7-yard line as the Gamecocks punched the ballย into the end zoneย to end regulation.

This was one of the best throws of the weekend, but the situation, timing, and difficulty of this throw is why it wins my seed of the week.
