Welcome back, Trey’Dez Green: Star TE puts LSU up 2-possessions early at Auburn
Welcome back, Trey’Dez Green — that’s what his LSU teammates and coaches as well as Tigers fans were saying on Saturday afternoon after the star junior tight end immediately announced to Auburn‘s defense that he was back and ready to go.
After missing the past four games, Green, who originally suffered a lower-body injury in the Week 3 loss at Ole Miss, looked to be in midseason form as he made Auburn pay for a lapse in coverage on Saturday afternoon.
Green wasn’t listed on this week’s initial injury report on Wednesday night, and 3 days later he should why. The Louisiana native, who was seen on the sidelines on crutches after that gruesome injury against Ole Miss, was a long way from that thankfully on Saturday as he caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Sam Leavitt with 9:48 left in the second quarter to give LSU a 17-3 cushion over those other Tigers from Auburn.
With Green’s availability for the rest of the season in question after that early season injury, he answered those worries emphatically on Saturday at Auburn with the TD catch that was only his second of the season because of the amount of time he’s missed. Green avoided surgery and now suddenly he was back firmly in the fold for LSU, playing a big role in giving the Tigers a first-half lead in the Week 8 road matchup.

Green’s TD catch came on a 3rd-and-6 play at the Auburn 15-yard line. He caught the pass from Leavitt at around the 10-yard line and barreled through a slew of Auburn tacklers at the goal line.

LSU had a nice early cushion, but this is the SEC and this is a rivalry game, so the Tigers — the LSU ones — had a lot of work still left to do to get a victory on the Plains. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about LSU’s chances to escape Auburn with a big road win:
