Western Michigan releases statement following MAC’s challenge of Michigan outcome

Western Michigan gave its reaction to the MAC changing its tune on Tuesday and challenging last Saturday night’s dramatic and controversial loss at Michigan on a last-second Hail Mary pass.
What looked like a 12-7 Western Michigan upset for the ages at The Big House instead turned into a 13-12 loss to the then-No. 16 Wolverines, and there was outrage on behalf of the Broncos. But after the MAC initially said on Sunday that it was accepting the Big Ten’s explanation for why replay officials added 1 second to the clock, giving Michigan a 2nd crack at an epic victory, the conference on Tuesday came to Western Michigan’s defense and announced that it will formally appeal the outcome of the game.
After the MAC changed its course of thinking, Western Michigan responded to the MAC’s response later on Tuesday, releasing an official statement on the Week 1 game that will go down in the annals for different reasons.
The statement from Western Michigan President Russ Kavalhuna read, in part:
Commissioner (Jon) Steinbrecher and the MAC have taken important action today in college football. The support we have received from across the country for Coach Taylor and our Broncos, for their character and their sportsmanship, has been overwhelming, and we are grateful for it.
