After a subpar performance against Arkansas on Saturday, Texas A&M will turn its focus to one of the hottest teams in the SEC, No. 13 Kentucky.
The Aggies still got the win against the Razorbacks in Week 5, but they will be looking to register a more complete performance against the Wildcats.
On Wednesday, coach Jimbo Fisher joined the SEC Coaches Teleconference to preview Kentucky, here’s what he said:
Thoughts on Bear Bryant:
- You know, I never had the fortune of meeting himโฆI was living in West Virginia when he passed… people talk about his presence and thatโs what I always think of.
On Mark Stoops’ defenses back at FSU:
- He is grinder, he understands all aspects of the defenseโฆ they were more of a 4-2-5, they are more of 3-down front nowโฆ there will always be someone with the right leverage and in the right position at the right time.
When he took the Kentucky job, did you give him an advice?
- Well, he knew that going inโฆ he comes from a great familyโฆ we went back and forth, he had questions from time to time wondering why I did thingsโฆ heโs developed a number of players.
Why did you hire Stoops?
- Well, he coached against meโฆ I knew his background, didnโt know him but those that knew him always spoke highly of himโฆ I hired him on the spot following the interview, thatโs the way I remember it.
On the pass rush of Kentucky, is that a challenge for your OL?
- From the 3-4 look, the thing they do, they make you even if itโs only a few guys, you have to account for all of themโฆ They are very smart at how they use Allenโฆ they do a tremendous job of getting those guys in position to make big plays.
