Alabama picked up a 35-13 victory over rival Tennessee on Saturday night, but the win came at a cost.
Star QB Tua Tagovailoa exited the game with an ankle injury, leaving the stadium by ambulance at one point. Now, the Crimson Tide face the prospect of playing a couple of games without the Heisman contender.
After the game, coach Nick Saban spoke with media members and updated Tagovailoa’s condition. He also spoke about some other things.
Here’s what Saban had to say (via 247Sports):
“Tua will probably be out for a week. I don’t know the extent. He’s got a twisted ankle. But I think he’s probably not going to be able to play for this next game. I know he’s going to get another MRI and all that in the morning, and they’ll decide exactly what to do from there.”
On backup QB Mac Jones’ performance:
“Mac did some good things, and we think Mac is capable. So, we have a lot of confidence in Mac. I think the players have confidence in Mac.”
On an injury to K Will Reichard:
“Will Reichard may have reinjured (his hip). He said this thing never hurt him at all when punting. He was a little skeptical about kicking, even though he has kicked some and he kicked in pregame, punted in pregame fine. He might’ve reinjured himself. We don’t the extent of that injury, either.”
Alabama hosts Arkansas next weekend for its annual homecoming game. Tagovailoa is unlikely to play, but we’ll learn more about his injury this coming week.
