The No. 10 LSU Tigers are set to take on the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores on the road today at high noon, and they will be doing so without one of their best players on defense.

According to a report from senior ESPN college football writer Pete Thamel, senior linebacker Whit Weeks has been ruled out today against the Commodores, per a source at ESPN.

Weeks, who was named LSU’s permanent defensive captain ahead of the 2025 season, was limited in practice all week as a result of a lingering ankle injury that he has been dealing with all season long.

Thamel originally reported on Friday afternoon that Weeks was expected to warm up and attempt to play against Vanderbilt, but he was also facing “long odds” to start against the Commodores.

Losing Weeks is a massive blow for the Tigers, as the senior captain currently leads the entire team in tackles with 40 on the year, and is also the quarterback of the entire LSU defense.

Now, head coach Brian Kelly and his staff will be forced to rely on a less experienced option up the middle against the Commodores as the team looks to improve its record to 6-1 on the season.
