The Kentucky Wildcats didn’t want to see a second overtime last weekend in Columbia. When Henry Boyer’s 6-yard receiving touchdown from Kenny Minchey put the Wildcats behind 34-33, head coach Will Stein knew exactly what play he’d turn to for the win.

Stein joined David Pollack’s See Ball, Get Ball podcast and discussed Kentucky’s victory in South Carolina. He revealed he had no reservations about going for a two-point conversion in overtime and wasn’t second-guessing his play call.

“When we scored, it was ‘we gotta go for two… this is our chance to win the game.’ I felt like our guys were ready for that moment… for multiple months, we had that play installed,” Stein said. “The low-red, and-goal defense a lot of times translates to two-point-play defense… felt like that was the best opportunity for one of our bread-and-butter, low red zone passes.”

Stein told Pollack his two-point conversion playbook is something he has been developing since his first practices in Lexington.

“We do two-point competitions in spring ball, and really build the arsenal,” Stein said. “In today’s college football, once you get past the second overtime, everything’s two points from there.”

Big Blue Nation would love if Saturday’s matchup vs. the LSU Tigers resulted in a Wildcat win without a game-deciding two-point conversion. Kentucky and LSU kick off at 7:00 p.m. E.T. (ESPN).
