Will Stein calls out College GameDay panel for picking against Kentucky: ‘Keep doing that’
The Kentucky Wildcats beat the LSU Tigers 35-34 in Lexington on Saturday night. Head coach Will Stein, for the second straight week, elected to go for a two-point conversion after scoring a touchdown in overtime.
Stein’s decision, just like it did at South Carolina, paid off for the Wildcats. Now that his program is on the rise, he doesn’t want detractors to switch up their loyalties. In the opening statement of his postgame press conference, Stein noted College GameDay didn’t have a single panelist pick Kentucky to beat LSU.
“We have a really good football team… [and] people count us out,” Stein said. “I took a picture of College GameDay this morning. Everybody picked LSU. Keep doing that. I appreciate that. It gives us a lot of fuel [and] a lot of fire, cause everybody doubts us.”
Kirk Herbstreit picked Kentucky to beat Alabama in Week 2, but neither he, not Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee or the show’s guest pickers, chose the Wildcats when they played Texas A&M in Week 3 or LSU in Week 6.
Stein may not want anyone selecting his team for its Week 7 matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners, but there’s a chance someone rides their bandwagon, even with them opening 6.5-point underdogs.
Kentucky and Oklahoma face off at 7:00 p.m. E.T. on Oct. 17 (ESPN).
