With loss to Northwestern, Penn State becomes first team to accomplish undesirable feat

With a stunning 22-21 defeat against Northwestern, Penn State’s season is going in the wrong direction after a 3rd straight loss. The Nittany Lions will also now be without their starting quarterback Drew Allar for the rest of the season because of a fourth quarter injury.
FOX Sports’ Chris Fallica has dug up an embarrassing stat for Penn State after the loss to Northwestern. Per the Bear, Penn State is the first team to drop back-to-back games after being a 20-point favorite. Penn State fell 42-37 last week at UCLA as 24.5 points favorites.
Most sports betting apps had Penn State as a 20.5-point favorite on Saturday against the Wildcats.
Penn State started off 3-0 but its non-conference competition was middling (Nevada, FIU, Villanova). Being 0-3 in the Big Ten is going to cause quite the uproar in State College.
If the hot seat wasn’t already increasing in temperature, it has to be scalding hot for Penn State head coach James Franklin now.
Suddenly, the thought of even becoming bowl eligible is no longer a foregone conclusion. Penn State will try to end the skid when they take on host Iowa on Oct. 18 (7 p.m. ET/Peacock).
