Former Alabama S Xavier McKinney was taken No. 36 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, going to the New York Giants early in Round 2.
He was getting some first-round buzz, but that’s not the way the draft board played out back in April.
In a series with Alabama’s Twitter account, McKinney became the latest player to explain why he chose to go to Alabama. He said he reached his full potential playing for the Crimson Tide:

“Being at Alabama made me a better person,” he said. “It made me a better player. It made me more disciplined in a lot of ways, on and off the field. It taught me a lot, man. I grew up fast here, especially with coach (Nick) Saban being in my (position) room, teaching me and helping me learn. … I reached my full potential being here.”
In 2019, McKinney recorded 95 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 interceptions, 5 pass breakups and 4 forced fumbles.
