Florida softball loses finale to Texas Tech, fails to reach Women’s College World Series

Florida softball was run-ruled 16-7 by Texas Tech on Sunday in Game 3 of the Gainesville Super Regional.
The upset loss means UF’s season is over and it will be the Red Raiders who advance to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City next week.
Both teams scored 7 runs over the first 2 innings of play, but Texas Tech was able to separate from that point onward. Keagan Rothrock was bounced from the game after just 2 innings of work and Florida’s bullpen proved to be ineffective against the Red Raiders. Texas Tech scored multiple runs each of the 5 innings on Sunday.

On the other side, All-American Nija Canaday limited Florida to 2 earned runs in 3 innings of work.
It’s a disappointing result for a Florida team that was excellent for much of the 2026 season. The Gators earned the right to host a super regional, but will miss out on a trip to Oklahoma city for the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2023.
The 2026 Women’s College World Series will begin on May 28.
