Mississippi State softball pulls off historic upset vs. Oklahoma, advances to WCWS
For the first time in its history, Mississippi State softball is going to the Women’s College World Series.
The Bulldogs won the rubber match over No. 3 overall seed Oklahoma in Norman on Sunday afternoon, 6-0. The result made history on a number of levels for both Mississippi State and Oklahoma.
The Sooners will miss out on a trip to the WCWS for the first time since 2015. They’ve won 6 National Championships since their last campaign without reaching OKC.
The final score on Sunday, 6-0, was also meaningful. Per ESPN, This was the first time Oklahoma has been shutout in any game since 2019, snapping a streak of 399 consecutive contests with at least one run.

The star of the day was Mississippi State pitcher Delainey Everett, who delivered her first complete game shutout of the season. She limited Oklahoma to just 3 hits on the day.
The Bulldogs will now prepare for their first-ever trip to OKC for the Women’s College World Series. They’re led by head coach Samantha Ricketts who played for the Sooners from 2006-09. She’s also the sister of Oklahoma softball legend Keilani Ricketts.
The 2026 Women’s College World Series will begin on May 28.
