Former Texas A&M baseball star Braden Montgomery had a big moment in his MLB debut on Tuesday night.

Montgomery hit a walk-off homer for the surging Chicago White Sox, giving his team a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Fittingly, that blast came exactly 2 years and 1 day after Montgomery suffered a serious leg injury while playing in the postseason for Texas A&M. He missed the remainder of the 2024 season as a result of the injury.

Despite his injury, Montgomery was drafted No. 12 overall by the Boston Red Sox in 2024. However, Boston traded him to Chicago as part of a package for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet in December of 2024.

After recovering from his leg injury, Montgomery was able to make his pro debut in the White Sox organization in 2025. He rose quickly through the system, reaching AA by the end of the year.

Montgomery’s final test in the minor leagues was in AAA where he hit .315 with 12 extra-base hits over 29 games before earning his promotion to the big leagues.

The White Sox have been one of baseball’s biggest surprises this season. They’re now 35-31 overall and are currently sitting in 2nd place in the AL Central.
