Tommy White collects first career MLB hit with Athletics

Former LSU star Tommy White was called up to the Big Leagues earlier this week, and he notched his first career hit in his first MLB game on Friday night. In the bottom of the 8th inning, his penultimate at-bat of the night, White smacked a double to center left.
Here’s a look at a swing White won’t ever forget:
As you can probably deduce from the scoreboard, White’s hit was perhaps the best moment on what was an otherwise brutal night for the Athletics. The A’s struggled mightily from the mound, giving up 21 hits in a 23-4 blowout at the hands of the Washington Nationals.
It’s been a brutal last few weeks (last few years?) for the Athletics, who have now lost 10 straight and 11 of their 12 matchups in the month of July. The A’s, currently playing in Sacramento as they await the completion of their new stadium in Las Vegas, now sit at 41-56 on the season.
White finished the game 1-for-4 from the plate, filling in for Nick Kurtz at first base. Because Kurtz is currently recovering from injury, White will be back in action tonight as the Athletics continue their series against the Nats.
