Baker Mayfield receives unfortunate injury update ahead of Week 4

Baker Mayfield has been dealing with a dislocated thumb injury so far this season, which is forcing him to miss Week 4’s matchup against The Green Bay Packers. However, he is going to miss more than just one game, as Adam Schefter reported Sunday that he is expected to miss anywhere from three to six weeks.
The timing is especially tough for the Buccaneers, as the team and Mayfield had a contract dispute for much of the off-season, before he signed a contract extension on September 9. The extension was a 3-year, $165 million deal that will keep him under contract through 2029.
With Mayfield out, the Buccaneers are going with undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels as the starting quarterback. Daniels was the starter at Kansas last year, and is now the guy who the Buccaneers are looking at to help save their season.
At 0-3, the Buccaneers are on the verge of seeing their season end very early in the year. Seven teams all-time have made the playoffs after starting 0-3, while only one team has at 0-4. Playing in the NFC South is going to help, but asking an undrafted rookie to save the season is a tough ask.
