Multimedia pundit Colin Cowherd has no shortage of hot takes, and he took to his podcast Thursday to speculate that the New York Giants should trade rookie sensation Jaxson Dart in favor of trying to land Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.
“The New York Giants right now would have the No. 1 pick. You trade Jaxson Dart. You take the 6-5½ Fernando Mendoza, absolutely,” Cowherd said. “I think Mendoza is about as good a prospect as you’re going to get.”
Cowherd went on to point out that he talked to an NFL scout that works for a team that wouldn’t be able to move up to take Mendoza, and what makes the Indiana quarterback so viable a pro prospect is that the Hoosiers run many pro concepts – so comparing his current form to future form is easier.
“His take was, easy guy to comp,” Cowherd said. “You will know watching his college film what throws he can and can’t make. … It is one day of watching film and you can see he can make that throw, that throw, that throw, audible out of that throw. He is the easiest guy to scout ever.”
Mendoza led the Hoosiers to the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff and won Indiana’s first-ever Heisman Trophy after throwing for 2,980 yards and 33 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. Dart, a former standout at Ole Miss, has started 7 games so far for the 2-12 Giants, throwing for 1,802 yards and 12 touchdowns against 4 interceptions.
