Darius Slay has delivered an impressive NFL career across stops with the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles, helping lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl title this season. Now, Slay will reportedly be looking for a new team to finish his career.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles are going to release the 6-time Pro Bowler this offseason. Slay’s release is expected to be designated as a post-June 1 release, a move that would save the Eagles over $4 million in cap space.

The former Mississippi State star has been a defensive game-changer since entering the NFL as a 2nd-round pick by the Lions in 2013. After 3 straight Pro Bowls (including a first-team All-Pro honor in 2017), the Lions traded Slay to the Eagles in March 2020.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Slay has indicated he has a desire to play one more season. The defensive back turned 34 in January and has appeared in 26 games across the past 2 regular seasons.

For his career, Slay has 28 career interceptions and is the NFL’s active career leader with 160 pass breakups. While Slay’s career has been fantastic, the move makes sense for Philadelphia. The Eagles beefed up their secondary in last year’s draft, taking both Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with both producing key performances as rookies.

We’ll see where Slay turns next for the 2025 season.
