It took Disney way longer than it presumably would have liked to get back in the Super Bowl broadcast rotation. Now that the massive corporation has its hands on one, it’s doing everything it can to promote it.

On Wednesday, ESPN — owned by Disney — announced Super Bowl LXI would be streamed on Disney+. This adds the game to ESPN and ABC’s already planned broadcasts, giving Disney a third avenue for distribution.

ABC has aired seven Super Bowls. The network was part of the broadcast rotation from 1985-2006 and has not televised one since Super Bowl XL. ESPN has never televised a Super Bowl.

CBS, FOX and NBC were on a three-network rotation of the Super Bowl from 2007-2024. NBC replaced ABC in the rotation beginning in 2007, and acquired Sunday Night Football from Disney the same year. The transition of SNF to NBC led ESPN to trade play-by-play broadcaster Al Michaels to NBC in exchange for the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a Walt Disney original character that preceded Mickey Mouse.

ABC will have Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on the call of Super Bowl LXI on Feb. 14, 2027. The game will be simulcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Unlimited, Disney+, NFL+ and Hulu.
