Former Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock got emotional when he was asked about what starting quarterback Sam Darnold was able to accomplish this season with the Seattle Seahawks.
The two QBs have known each other since their high school days. They were one draft class apart and now find themselves sharing the QB room in Seattle. Following Darnold’s stellar performance in the NFC Championship game, Lock was asked about Darnold’s performance.
“I’ll say this, I’m 100% not surprised at all,” Lock said. “He is, for lack of better words, very, very, very good at his job. He is a competitor, studies like no other, so smart. Couple that with the throws that we all get to visually see. He’s outstanding.”
The reporter who asked Lock this question noticed that he was getting emotional while answering and asked Lock why that was:
“You know, just buddies back a long time ago,” Lock recalled. Somehow, we get to be together in a quarterback room with Jalen (Milroe), who’s been amazing. Quarterback, you feel for another quarterback, so to see him get hurt, you know how much it means to him, you know how much winning a game like this would mean to him. If the shoes were reversed, I know how much it’d mean to me. I’m just really proud of him.”
Lock will now get to watch his buddy from the sidelines as he takes on the New England Patriots for the chance to call themselves Super Bowl Champions.
