Former Alabama defender Minka Fitzpatrick has been a star defender in the NFL. Across his 7-year career, mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fitzpatrick has received 3 First-Team All-Pro nods and 5 Pro Bowl appearances.

However, on Monday, the franchise is reportedly trading the veteran safety for a significant piece. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Fitzpatrick is the player involved in Pittsburgh’s move to acquire star cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins.

As a part of that deal, Ramsey will receive a raise to get his full salary for 2025 to $26.6 million:

In an interesting twist, the move sends Fitzpatrick back to the franchise that originally drafted him out of the Crimson Tide program under Nick Saban. He became one of the Alabama all-time draft picks when the Dolphins selected the defender with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

During Fitzpatrick’s 2nd season, Miami moved the defender to Pittsburgh for a package that included 1st, 5th and 6th-round picks across the 2020 and 2021 NFL Drafts. Fitzpatrick would cap that 2019 season with his first All-Pro honor after recording 5 interceptions, 9 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles and 69 total tackles.

Now, Fitzpatrick is heading back to South Florida with 2 years left on his current contract.
