The Los Angeles Rams entered the 2026 NFL season as the odds-on favorites to take home the Lombardi Trophy at season’s end, but are now sitting at 2-3 after dropping an insane overtime game to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 5.
A large part of the Rams’ woes through the first several weeks of the 2026 campaign has been their lackluster special teams play. The kicking game, in particular, has been among the worst in the NFL, and that problem reared its head again against the Bills when placekicker Harrison Mevis missed 2 field goals.
His second miss came in overtime on a blocked kick that would have won the Rams the game, and it looks like that also bookended Mevis’ time in LA, as the team officially released him Tuesday afternoon.

An Indiana native, Mevis played for the Missouri Tigers from 2020 to 2023 and left the program as its all-time leading scorer after racking up 86 total field goals and making all 138 extra-point attempts.
He went undrafted in 2024 and spent a season with the Birmingham Stallions before officially landing with the Rams in 2025. He was solid in 9 appearances for LA last season, but has been one of the worst kickers in the NFL through the first 5 weeks of 2026, missing 4 of his 9 field goal attempts.
Now that his time with the Rams is officially over, Mevis will be looking to find another NFL franchise that is willing to give him a chance to prove he can get things back on track.
