Jalen Carter did not play a snap on Thursday before getting thrown out.

In the Philadelphia Eagles’ season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys, Carter was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct before the first offensive snap of the game. Following the opening kickoff, while the Cowboys were huddled and the Eagles’ training staff tended to an injured player on the field, Carter approached the Cowboys’ huddle and appeared to spit on Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.

An official who was right next to Carter immediately threw a flag and threw Carter out of the game.

Carter was the ninth overall pick out of Georgia in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He had 6 sacks and 33 tackles as a rookie during the 2023 season. Last year, as the Eagles ran to a Super Bowl title, Carter had 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. He had 2 sacks in the Eagles’ Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Carter was expected to be a massive part of the Eagles’ gameplan against the Cowboys on Thursday night. The Eagles’ coaching staff probably didn’t plan to lose him 6 seconds into the game. Baylor rookie Gabe Hall was listed on the team’s depth chart as the backup behind Carter for the game.
