Jalen Carter didn’t even get to play a snap in Thursday night’s season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

After appearing to spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first snap from scrimmage, Carter was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and thrown out of the game. Only 6 seconds had come off the clock before the defending Super Bowl champs lost one of their most important defensive pieces.

On the opening kickoff, an Eagles player picked up an injury and the ensuing delay made for an extended huddle on the field for the Dallas offense. While Eagles trainers were tending to a player, Carter made his way over to the Dallas huddle and started jawing with Prescott.

Officials were right next to the exchange and immediately flagged Carter.

Immediately, some on social media were called for the former Georgia standout to receive further punishment from the NFL for the incident. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith called for Carter to be suspended, calling the decision “inexcusable.”

Others on social media were simply in disbelief at what they’d seen.

Below, you’ll find just some of the reaction to the incident. Social media lit up like a Christmas tree after Carter was tossed.
