Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made some questionable comments about stars Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott on Monday afternoon.
Jones was speaking to reporters when he appeared to call out Parsons and Prescott for missing games due to injury in recent years. The Cowboys are currently engaged with Parsons on a long-term contract extension.
“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him,” Jones said. “He was hurt 6 games last year. Seriously.”
A correction to Jones’ statement — Parsons only missed 4 games in 2024, all due to a leg injury he suffered during a game. The comments from Jones are especially surprising as Parsons hadn’t missed a game since his rookie season prior to sustaining that injury. He’s played in 63 out of a possible 68 regular season games during his NFL career so far.
Jones also took a shot at Prescott, who missed 9 games last season after signing a record-breaking extension worth $240 million in September of 2024.
“I remember signing a player for the highest-paid [salary] at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year,” Jones said. “Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you think about committing and guaranteeing money.”
Prescott is preparing for his 10th NFL season out of Mississippi State, all of which have been spent with the Dallas Cowboys.
Parsons seemed to take exception to Jones’ statement as he re-posted this message from NFL legend JJ Watt on social media:
Parsons is set to play the 2025 season on the final year of his rookie contract with the Cowboys. He was drafted out of Penn State with the No. 12 overall pick back in 2021.
