New York Jets tight end Mason Taylor left his team’s Week 2 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers after suffering a thumb injury.
The bad news for Taylor? He is “likely” to be out for the Jets’ Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The good news? The injury is week-to-week, signaling that it likely won’t sideline the former LSU standout for too long.
Taylor, the son of Hall of Fame defensive end/linebacker Jason Taylor, is in his second season with the Jets after being taken in the second round in 2025. He enjoyed a good rookie season, making 46 catches for 367 yards and a touchdown. His best game was a nine-catch, 67-yard performance in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys. During Week 14 against the Miami Dolphins, his father’s former team, he totaled five catches for 51 yards before suffering a neck injury that ended his season.
Taylor has gotten off to a slow start in 2026. In Week 1, he made two catches for just -2 yards against the Tennessee Titans during a 23-10 win. He had zero catches before exiting against the Packers.
The Jets will be looking to improve to 2-1 as they take on a Lions team that is also coming off a loss. Detroit opened the season with a 31-30 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints before falling to the Buffalo Bills 41-31 on Thursday.
