Matthew Stafford is that rarest of NFL quarterbacks who have had stellar tenures with 2 franchises.
The former Georgia star signal-caller experienced the first chapter of his NFL excellence with the Detroit Lions, who he played for from 2009-2020. Stafford didn’t win big game during those years for a lot of not-so-good Lions teams, but it doesn’t mean he was an amazing himself.
He was. And he threw the most passing touchdowns in Lions history, tossing 282 TDs during all those seasons, making the Pro Bowl once in 2014 along with it.
But then came the change in Stafford’s life and career. In March of 2021, Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, where he picked up where he left off in Detroit by playing the quarterback position with that same excellence as in the Motor City.
Stafford, who starred at Georgia from 2006-08 and was a first-team All-American in 2008, led the Rams to a Super Bowl title during the 2021 season and has already made 2 Pro Bowls with Los Angeles in 2023 and 2025. He was the NFL MVP during that 2025 season, with the now 38-year-old winning the MVP at an older age that signifies that he’s not slowing down just yet.
On Sunday afternoon came another sign of that. During a Week 7 clash against the Las Vegas Raiders, Stafford pulled the passing TD career record double. Stafford became the only player in NFL history to have the most passing touchdowns for multiple franchises, setting the Rams franchise passing TD record with his 155th scoring strike.
Stafford was on his way to leading the Rams to a much-needed victory in Las Vegas as he made that individual history. As the third quarter winded down, Los Angeles led, 28-6, with Stafford being 20 of 24 for 160 yards passing, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
While Stafford adds to his individual accomplishments, he’s also trying to get the Rams back in contention to win the NFC West. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Los Angeles’ chances to rally as the season progresses and capture the division crown:
