Matthew Stafford is sticking with the Los Angeles Rams for at least a couple more years.

The Rams announced on Thursday that Stafford, the 2025 NFL MVP, signed a one-year contract extension that locks him in with the franchise through the 2027 season. According to Adam Schefter, the extension is worth at least $55 million but could grow to as much as $60 million if certain incentives are met.

Stafford, who turned 38 in February, is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. The former Georgia legend threw for league highs of 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns, surpassing his previous career best of 41 TDs set in 2011 and 2021. Los Angeles went 12-5 and appeared in the NFC Championship Game before losing 31-27 to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

There were some questions about Stafford’s future after the Rams surprisingly selected Alabama‘s Ty Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in April. While Simpson was never going to take over as QB1 in L.A. as long as Stafford was there, he’ll have the opportunity to sit under a future Hall of Famer while presumably taking the reins after Stafford retires, whenever that is.

Stafford and the Rams open the 2026 season on Thursday, September 10, in Melbourne against the San Francisco 49ers in a battle of NFC West rivals.
