Myles Garrett saw what happened last week when New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones apparently grabbed and twisted the ankle of Carolina Panthers defensive end Brian Burns. It was a hot topic this week, especially when Burns later called out Jones.
Now, Garrett and the Cleveland Browns get their turn to take on Jones’ Patriots on Sunday. And because Garrett saw what happened, he’s hoping to avoid a similar situation.
โOf course, I watched it, and Iโll hold my comments on that one,โ Garrett said, per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. โI mean, hopefully it doesnโt happen to me. I donโt know. [I hope Jones] doesnโt turn into the ankle-grabber. I donโt know. So weโll see.โ
Garrett added that players around the NFL should be able to avoid it because they’re now aware of it.
โI mean, if I tackle him or I sack him and I let him grab me, honestly, thatโs on me,โ Garrett said. โIโm not saying itโs on Brian. He didnโt expect it. But now weโve all seen it. Now I know to get my behind up and get out of the way.โ
Garrett, a former Texas A&M standout, is having a ton of success in his 5th NFL season, as he currently leads the league with 12 sacks. So there’s a good chance he’ll get to the rookie Jones, a former Alabama QB, at some point on Sunday.
