Live mics are always tricky, because there’s a chance that something could go out over the air that you didn’t intend.
Take Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell on Saturday. O’Connell and the Vikings were at U.S. Bank Stadium to host the New England Patriots for preseason action as the 2025 NFL season is just weeks away.
Coaches sometimes conduct in-game interviews with the announcers during preseason games, and in the 3rd quarter, O’Connell donned the headset to talk about his expectations for the team and talk them through a play call.
The interview didn’t exactly go as planned, as you can see (and hear) below:
The play initially looked as if it might go off without a hitch. But it seems like some signals got crossed and the receiver near the bottom of the screen moved before he was supposed to.
The good news is that it’s preseason and there’s plenty of time to iron out the wrinkles. The Vikings, who went 14-3 and finished 2nd in the NFC North before losing in the Wild Card Round to the Los Angeles Rams, will have their sights on another successful campaign and, hopefully for them, the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.
