Nick Chubb signing 1-day contract to retire as a Cleveland Brown

The NFL world got a massive shock in August when former All-Pro running back Nick Chubb officially announced his retirement after 8 seasons.
A 2018 second-round draft selection by the Cleveland Browns, Chubb spent the first 7 years of his pro career with Cleveland before signing with the Houston Texans ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Chubb spent the most productive years of his career with Cleveland, and he will now retire as a Brown after signing a 1-day contract with the franchise on Friday morning.
An SEC legend, Chubb spent 4 elite seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs from 2014-2017, leaving Athens as the SEC’s second all-time leading rusher with 4,769 yards.
He joined the Browns in 2018 and immediately became one of the NFL’s best backs, earning 4 Pro Bowl nods in his first 5 years and second-team All-Pro honors in 2022. Unfortunately, that was the height of Chubb’s career, as he suffered season-ending injuries in both 2023 and 2024 before spending 1 unproductive year in Houston.
Things may not have ended the way he or anybody else wanted, but Chubb can at least say that he ended his amazing pro career on his own terms with the team and city that drafted him.
