Quinn Ewers reportedly added to active roster as Dolphins promote former Texas QB

Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is now 1 step closer to his NFL debut, as the Miami Dolphins have reportedly elevated Ewers off the scout team to back up Tua Tagovailoa in Week 7 Sunday afternoon against the Cleveland Browns (1 p.m. ET, CBS).

Ewers forgoed his senior season at Texas to enter the NFL Draft following the 2024 season and was selected by Miami in the 7th round with the 231st overall pick. He signed a 4-year rookie contract worth $4.33 million and served as Miami’s 3rd-string emergency quarterback for the Dolphins’ first 5 games.

Zach Wilson had been serving as the backup to Tagovailoa, who starred at Alabama before being drafted by the Dolphins in 2020. Tagovailoa has passed for just 575 yards and 5 touchdowns so far for Miami in 2025.

Ewers passed for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns in his 3-year tenure in Austin, including 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2023 and 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior in 2024.

Ewers went 27-9 as a starter at Texas, starting 36 of 37 games. He began his career at Ohio State in 2021, appearing in a single game against Michigan State in a reserve role.
