The Denver Broncos advanced to the AFC Championship on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 33-30 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, the triumph came at a major cost.

Shortly after Denver’s AFC Divisional triumph concluded, reports emerged that quarterback Bo Nix had broken a bone in his ankle and would miss the rest of the season. This news feels devastating for the Broncos’ Super Bowl chances, but head coach Sean Payton doesn’t want anyone digging their grave. In his postgame press conference, he stated that backup signal-caller Jarrett Stidham is prepared for this opportunity.

“In fairness to what you’ve seen, which is very limited… he’s ready,” Payton said. “I said this [at] the beginning of the season: I feel like I’ve got a [No. 2 QB] that’s capable of starting for a handful, a number of teams. And I know he feels the same way. So, watch out.”

Stidham has made 20 NFL appearances (4 starts) in his career. He has completed 59.4% of his passes (117/197) for 1,422 yards, 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. The 2019 4th-round pick out of Auburn now embarks on preparation for the biggest game of life. He and the Broncos will face the winner of Sunday’s Houston Texans-New England Patriots contest with a Super Bowl berth on the line next Sunday (Jan. 25).
