The Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs renew hostilities in The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on Halloween. Their rivalry got an unexpected early revival in Week 6 of the NFL season, when Buffalo Bills safety CJ Gardner-Johnson was ejected for spitting at Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.

This isn’t the first incident Gardner-Johnson has been part of in his professional career. And, for better or worse, it probably won’t be the last. But Stephen A. Smith believes the 28-year-old defender shouldn’t step on the field in Week 7. On Monday’s episode of First Take, Smith called for Gardner-Johnson to face additional discipline for his actions.

“I literally in football can body slam you and get away with it… legally. It is allowed in the sport. Why would you do something like [spit]?” Smith said. “There’s a reason why you’ve been to multiple teams… it’s about your behavior. And to do something like that, that shows an absence of character… he should be suspended.”

Gardner-Johnson made headlines following the Bills’ Week 4 loss to the New England Patriots by referring to tight end Efton Chism III, who made the game-winning touchdown catch, as a “practice squad player.” The irony was that Chism has never been on an NFL practice squad, like Gardner-Johnson has been. Regardless, Gardner-Johnson disrespecting people is not out of the ordinary. If he is not suspended, he’ll help Buffalo battle the Baltimore Ravens following a Week 7 bye.
