ESPN has tabbed Shane Gillis as this year’s host of the ESPYs. The awards are set to air live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Gillis is having a big moment in the spotlight as a highly successful touring standup comic and co-host of the comedy podcast Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast with fellow comedian Matt McCusker. He’s also the creator and star of the Netflix series Tires, which returned for a second season in June.

Shane is not only one of the top comedians today, but also a huge sports fan, which made him an easy choice to host the ESPYs,” said Craig Lazarus, ESPN Vice President and the ESPYs Executive Producer in a release. “We are thrilled to work with him to create an entertaining show celebrating this year’s best moments in sports and are excited to see what he’ll do on stage.

As a sports fan, Gillis had a memorable appearance on College GameDay in which he upset Nick Saban with a quip about SEC teams such as Alabama paying players in the pre-NIL era. Gillis’s other brushes with sports have included a Bud Light Super Bowl ad with Peyton Manning and Post Malone and a Notre Dame-themed digital spot for Under Armour.

I’m excited to be at the ESPYs this year,” Gillis said in an ESPN release. “I like sports so this should be a good time.

It will be fun to see what Gillis brings to this year’s ESPYs!
