For the first time since 1984, the Ole Miss men’s golf team has won the SEC Championship. The Rebels defeated the Florida Gators on Sunday 4-1 in match play to secure their victory.

It felt as if Ole Miss could do no wrong on Sunday morning. The Rebels took a 2-0 lead on the back of Tom Fischer and Collins Trolio, who only needed 14 and 15 holes, respectively, to pick up their point. Both players were putting on a clinic with their clubs.

Every Rebel player either won or tied their match. After the win, coach Chris Malloy — an Ole Miss golf alum — applauded his team’s toughness and mental resolve.

“They’re built for this moment,” Malloy told SEC Network’s Peter Burns. “We talked about toughness. All year long, that’s the one thing that we harped… to see them do it, and do what they did all week long, from start to finish, when everyone [has] counted us out, is pretty special… I’d say it’s a dream come true, but I don’t even know that I really dreamt it. It’s awesome to see.”

The Rebels will head to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Championships will be held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California from May 29th through June 3rd.
