Trent Dilfer’s Lipscomb Academy rolls out unusual social media graphic for its 2026 schedule

Trent Dilfer’s success on the high school sidelines didn’t translate to the college ranks at all. The former Super Bowl champion, who went 44-10 in four seasons at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville and won state championships in 2021 and 2022, was fired six games into his third season at UAB after a 9-21 mark.
Lipscomb has posted records of 5-6, 4-6, and 3-8 since Dilfer’s departure. With it looking for a new head coach and Dilfer in search of a gig after failing to catch on at UAB, a reunion was always a possibility. And, ultimately, that’s what we got after Dilfer was re-hired in January.
The Mustangs’ 2026 schedule is out, and, well, the social media post for it wasn’t quite a traditional one by any standard. Take a look below:
To be fair, the message to the Lipscomb seems to be this: Given the program’s struggles over the past several years, the team’s focus isn’t external, but internal. That said, it feels like the execution could have been just a little better.
If you’re wondering, Lipscomb’s season kicks off on Aug. 21 against McCallie School in Chattanooga before it faces Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn. The Mustangs’ home opener is on Sept. 4 against Knoxville Catholic. We’ll see if Dilfer’s return can get the Mustangs back on track.
