U.S. Senator embarrassingly mixes up Iowa Hawkeyes, Atlanta Hawks during official hearing

U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt, a Republican from the state of Missouri, had a forgettable moment during Tuesday’s hearing featuring U.S. special counsel Jack Smith before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The hearing was supposed to be all business, but the sports world reared its head into matters, and not in the greatest of ways, at least for Schmitt. The Missouri Senator claimed that he had evidence that Smith attended a Hawks game in Atlanta.
That would be the Atlanta Hawks, an NBA team. But Smith denied he attended the “Hawks” game.
Instead, Schmitt, who declared that he busted Smith for perjury, had to answer for a classic mix up of teams, of sports, of leagues, of everything when it comes to the sports world.
Because Smith declared in the hearing that he didn’t go to a Hawks game at all. Instead, it was an Iowa Hawkeyes game in the state of Maryland, not a Hawks game in the state of Georgia or wherever the NBA team was playing that night.
It was a classic moment not to be forgotten by anyone with sports knowledge who happened to be watching Tuesday’s hearing. It certainly brought the question of how much Schmitt knows about differentiating the Hawks with the Hawkeyes.
