Sony Michel has a new NFL home.

The New England Patriots have traded the former Georgia running back Michel to the Los Angeles Rams, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Patriots are trading RB Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two late-round conditional draft picks, per sources,” Schefter wrote. “New England gets back two picks, the Rams get needed talent and depth at running back.”

The Patriots drafted Michel with the 31st pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and although he’s played well at times, things haven’t gone totally as planned for Michel with the Patriots. He gets a fresh start with the Rams, who lost running back Cam Akers to a season-ending injury.

New England didn’t pick up the fifth-year option on Michel’s rookie contract, and his Patriots future has been in question. In three-career seasons for the Patriots, Michel recorded 535 carries for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns. He’s also logged 26 catches for 258 yards and one touchdown.

Now, Michel will join former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles. Also, Michel joins forces with former Georgia running back Thomas Brown, who is the Rams position coach. Brown also coached Michel while he was starring for the Bulldogs.

Michel had a standout career with Georgia, rushing for 3,613 yards and 33 touchdowns. He also caught 64 passes for 621 yards and six touchdowns.
