Notre Dame loses starting OL Rocco Spindler to transfer portal, per report
Notre Dame offensive lineman Rocco Spindler has entered his name into the transfer portal, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
A 6-foot-5, 325-pound guard from Clarkston, Michigan, Spindler started for the Irish in each of the last 2 seasons. He entered the starting lineup against Miami (OH) this past season and started every game at right guard from then on. He was injured in the Orange Bowl win over Penn State but returned to start in the College Football Playoff National Championship against Ohio State.
Spindler will have 1 season of eligibility remaining and will instantly become a target for any guard-needy contender.
This season for Notre Dame, Spindler was not debited with allowing a sack. In more than 650 career snaps as a pass-blocker, Spindler has allowed only 2 sacks, per PFF. He gave up 10 total quarterback pressures this season and 15 last season.
Among its regular contributors on the offensive line, Spindler was graded as the third-best performer for the Irish this season, with a 70.5 overall grade from PFF.
He played some left guard as a true freshman but has spent the entirety of his starting career at the right guard spot.
Spindler becomes the fourth player to enter the transfer portal for Notre Dame since Monday’s loss to Ohio State. Left guard Sam Pendleton has also hit the portal.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
