Oklahoma has landed a transfer pledge from former Florida State defensive end Marvin Jones Jr., according to multiple reports. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz had the news first. According to a report from 247Sports’ Blake Antkowiak, Jones picked the Sooners over Texas.
A 6-foot-5, 255-pound edge from Coral Gables, Florida, Jones initially began his career at Georgia. He played in 25 games across 2 seasons with the Bulldogs after signing with them as a 5-star recruit. Ahead of the 2024 season, he transferred to Florida State.
Jones played in 11 games this past season. He made 25 tackles with 6 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.
Throughout his career, Jones has 41 tackles, 11.5 TFLs, and 8 sacks. He was viewed as one of the top edge defenders in the portal this winter.
Jones is the son of 10-year NFL vet Marvin Jones, who won the Butkus and Lombardi Awards in 1992 with Florida State. The elder Jones currently serves as the head coach of an Indoor Football League team in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Sooners finished in the young Jones’ top 5 during his high school recruitment.
He becomes the 12th known transfer pledge for Oklahoma so far. He’s the only defensive player thus far to join the program via the portal.
