Oklahoma softball was officially named the top overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening.

The Sooners have won a remarkable 43 games in a row. Their lone loss this season came in a nonconference matchup vs. Baylor early in the season. They enter the postseason with a record of 51-1.

Oklahoma will host a regional that includes Cal, Missouri and Hofstra. Its first matchup in the regional will be against No. 4-seeded Hofstra on Friday.

Offensively, Oklahoma has been the top team in the country this season. The Sooners are led by a trio of batters who are hitting above .400 on the season: Jayda Coleman, Tiare Jennings and Alyssa Brito.

Oklahoma also has batters who have launched double-digit home runs this year: Coleman, Jennings, Brito, Kinzie Hansen and Haley Lee.

In the circle, the Sooners have a deep staff of arms who can have an impact in the postseason. Jordy Bahl, Alex Storako and Nicole May all pitched more than 90 innings this season and posted an ERA under 1.15. Freshman Kierston Deal has also emerged in recent weeks as a potential option.

Patty Gasso and the Sooners are favored to win another national title. Oklahoma is the back-to-back defending National Champion. They have won 6 National Championships in the Gasso era, which dates back to 1995.
