Following an offseason of scandal, Ole Miss will try to decide if interim coach Matt Luke should replace Hugh Freeze on a permanent basis or if the Rebels would be better off with an outside hire.

Athletic director Ross Bjork is keeping the Rebels’ plans under lock and key at the moment, but more rumors will likely start to fly as the season wears on and the coaching carousel starts in full force.

According to CBS Sports reporter Dennis Dodd, the Rebels could look to the Pac-12 for a candidate. Dodd writes that hiring outspoken Washington State coach Mike Leach makes sense for Ole Miss:

“OK, it’s speculative but so is every candidate until we actually know the NCAA sanctions,” Dodd writes. “But one source from the region called and began to rattle off why Washington State’s coach would be a good fit in Oxford.”

Obviously, a ton of names are going to be thrown out in this coaching search in the coming months, but Dodd cautions fans against dismissing the idea of Leach heading to Oxford.
