Former Ole Miss (and current Panthers) OT Michael Oher didn’t show up to Carolina’s Organized Team Activities Tuesday, but he’s reportedly planning on playing in 2017.
Oher plans to attend the Panthers’ mandatory June 13-15 minicamp. He missed 13 games last season with a concussion, and assuming he’s cleared from the concussion protocol, he’ll suit up for the Panthers again this year. Reports have also surfaced that he’s not in the best shape, but he has some time to work on that between now and minicamp.
If Oher does return to the team, he’ll move to right tackle, because the team signed Matt Kalil at left tackle. Oher would compete with Daryl Williams and Taylor Moton at right tackle.
Oher’s been in the news recently for his altercation with an Uber driver in Nashville. Following the incident, Oher was cited for misdemeanor assault. The next step in the case will be a June 6 court date in Nashville.
The former Rebels’ standout was the No. 23 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Ravens. After five years with the Ravens, Oher joined the Tennessee Titans in 2014 before joining the Carolina Panthers for the last two NFL seasons.
