Ole Miss has signed former Washington State cornerback Kapena Gushiken out of the transfer portal, according to a report.

That’s per On3’s Pete Nakos. Gushiken started 11 games for Washington State in 2024 and 5 more in 2023.

Gushiken recorded 52 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions and 6 pass breakups this season for the Cougars. He was a key part of a Washington State secondary that finished 78th nationally in pass defense efficiency rating in 2024.

He joins an Ole Miss secondary that will be hoping to continue making progress in 2025. The Rebels have finished in the top 5 of the SEC in pass defense efficiency rating in each of the past 2 seasons.

Lane Kiffin and his staff have been very aggressive in adding talent via the transfer portal this offseason. Gushiken is the 21st transfer to commit to Ole Miss so far this offseason. The class ranks No. 2 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Gushiken began his career at the junior college level. Because of the recent court ruling involving Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Gushiken will now have 1 season of eligibility remaining in college football.

Guhiken is originally from Pukalani, Maui, Hawaii. He previously attended Saddleback College in southern California.
