Report: Ole Miss expected to hire new DL coach away from AAC school
The Ole Miss Rebels have had an opening at DL coach this offseason, but it seems they’re nearing a hire.
Per reports that surfaced on Thursday, the Rebels are going with an assistant out of the American Athletic Conference who has had defensive lines that have put up impressive sack and tackle-for-loss numbers the past 2 years.
Per Bruce Feldman, Randall Joyner of SMU is expected to head to Oxford to become the Rebels’ new DL coach:
SOURCE: #SMU DL coach Randall Joyner is expected to become the new defensive line coach at Ole Miss. In 2019, SMU ranked No. 1 in the FBS for sacks per game and in the top three in TFLs. In 2020, SMU was No. 15 in TFLs. The move was first reported by football scoop.

As Feldman points out, SMU was No. 1 in the FBS in sacks-per-game in 2019 and has put up impressive TFL numbers the past 2 seasons.
Can that level of success follow Joyner to Ole Miss? He’ll have his work cut out for him to improve a defense that gave up a lot of yards and points in 2020.
