We are less than one week from signing day and while it is definitely a mad dash to the finish line for most programs in the Southeastern Conference, some programs are hotter than others.

Here are the three hottest teams on the recruiting trail in the SEC, with one additional program to keep an eye on.

Alabama

The Crimson Tide has the longest “runway” of any program ranked in the top 10 nationally to finish with a flurry and potentially the No. 1 overall class for a sixth straight cycle.

Since winning his fourth national title as the head coach in Tuscaloosa 16 days ago, Nick Saban has given a monstrous effort on the recruiting trail (along with his staff). The returns have been extremely positive for many top targets and Alabama has loads of momentum heading to the Feb. 3 finish. The question now is this: Can they close the deal on these top targets and finish No. 1 again or will another school break the streak? Time will tell.

Ole Miss

Earlier this week, the Rebels flipped an offensive tackle from Missouri and landed sneaky-good wide receiver Tre Nixon out of Florida over Georgia and others. Likewise, five-star in-state defensive end Jeffery Simmons is trending Ole Miss and you also can’t discount that Hugh Freeze and his staff are in the mix this late with five-star prospects like Mique Juarez and Rashan Gary. This class already ranks No. 4 nationally and it will be fascinating to see if what already is a good finish becomes a great one.

LSU

The Tigers are still ranked No. 1 in the latest composite team recruiting rankings for this cycle via 247Sports. LSU’s class is deep on the defensive line and wide receiver and could be just as good in the secondary if the Tigers can close with in-state five-star cornerback Kristian Fulton and south Florida star Trayvon Mullen, which they are expected to do. Will it be enough for LSU to end up with the top class this cycle? A lot depends on what happens elsewhere, particularly in Tuscaloosa and Oxford.

Note: Auburn is also worth a mention. The Tigers have done an excellent job closing the deal on several top targets and word is they are in the thick of things with five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown (battling Georgia) more than what was expected. If Auburn closes with a bang, gets Brown and ends up with some other nice gets down the stretch, then it’s one of the biggest storylines of this cycle.
