Athlon Sports names its preseason 2020 All-SEC selections
Whether or not the Southeastern Conference holds its annual Media Days event in Atlanta in July, the league will still send out ballots to the media to vote on the league’s preseason All-SEC selections for the 2020 season.
The results of that poll won’t be in until mid-July but while we wait for the announcement of the official preseason teams, Athlon Sports recently shared the magazine’s selections for the 2020 season on the company’s site.
You will also be able to find this information in the 2020 Athlon Sports SEC preview magazine which is available to purchase in stores or from the Athlon Sports online store.
Here is a breakdown of the number of selections that made Athlon’s preseason 2020 All-SEC selections list.
Athlon Sports listed a first-team, second-team, third-team and fourth-team heading into the upcoming season.

8 for the Tide on first team.. Not bad. Hopefully we get to see this play out..
Jaime Newman first team QB is laughable at best unless you really believe he will be the next Heisman winner and #1 overall NFL draft pick and the second coming of Cam Newton and all that non sense spouted in Athens
Given what the SEC has at QB this year, I don’t think he’d have to do any of that to be considered the best in the conference. Not saying he’ll end up being the best or that he’ll light the world on fire, but it’s not like he was ranked over Fields, Lawrence, etc to make the first team.
The guy hasn’t even played a down in the SEC and is predicted to be first team all sec without spring ball? He wasn’t even 1st, 2nd or 3rd team in the ACC. This is how hype gets started and unrealistic expectations are formed.
Yeah I agree it seems a little strange that the guy who hasn’t taken a snap in the SEC is first team all sec…. I guess it doesn’t really matter though as this is preseason and hold no weight on anything.
x2
“Given what the SEC has at QB this year”
The SEC has a bunch of proven players at QB this year and some transfers that have played for better programs in better conferences as well. Trask, Mac Jones, Nix, Mond and Costello as well as Corral and Plumlee will all probably do better than the Cam Newton wannabe
Most of that hype isn’t coming out of Athens. It’s mostly coming out of places like Athlon, ESPN, etc.
There may be UGA fan or two that believes the hype but most of us do not.
Me personally, I think he’s going to serve in a game manager role at least early on. He will be expected to get the ball into the hands of the play-makers and minimize mistakes and turnovers.
I really wish we could slow the Newman hype train and not straddle him, or the UGA offense, with lofty expectations.
Yeah I was about to say I hope they keep piling on the accolades and lofty expectations. He might live up to them but i would think the added pressure will hinder more than help.
Two 1st team DBs from LSU. ESPN recently listed its All-SEC All-NFL team (best NFL player by position from the SEC). Three of the four 1st team DBs were from LSU. DBU.
How can you be a First Team All-SEC QB when you have not taken a single snap in an SEC game…
Smoke & mirrors, that’s how. He came from a conference that fielded one great defence, he will play against six or more great defences this season. First year, new team, new offense, statistically the odds are against him.
And he sucked mayor league against that one good D
Crazy to see UK with 9, and with Quinton Bohanna on third team may be a snub, dude is a special talent. He will prove it on the field.
About 10 of these players will not play this year Chase Shelvin Newman etc
Watch LSU. Arik Gilbert and Jabrill Cox
