Atlanta Airport experiences massive delays morning after National Championship Game

Atlanta knows how to host big-time events with the city hosting everything from the SEC Championship Game and the Super Bowl to the men’s Final Four and Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
However, hosting events also means a major influx of visitors, and that influx of visitors is now trying to make their trek home on Tuesday morning. With Monday’s game played between Ohio State and Notre Dame, this influx of visitors includes many fans from the Midwest flocking to the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to try and make their way home.
It has led to an expected amount of chaos and mayhem at the airport with fans and normal travelers combining to try and get out of Atlanta. According to videos on social media, it’s led to regular delays of over an hour, including some reaching an hour and a half, to get through security checkpoints.
Making matters worse, the aftermath of Monday’s title game is only the tip of the iceberg for Atlanta. The region is dealing with another winter storm sweeping through the Southeast throughout Tuesday, and that storm has further complicated things at the airport.
According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, over 200 flights have already been impacted by the impending weather prior to 10 am. WSB reports over 150 flights have already been canceled while another 100+ are experiencing delays.
Hopefully everyone makes it home safely, but anyone looking to make it out of Atlanta on Tuesday should be prepared for changing plans throughout the day.
